Search Gainers:

Search interest in Marilyn Monroe skyrockets 800 percent after rumors of a Monroe sex tape selling for $1.5 million began to surface last week. Skeptics claim the tape is a sham and reports now indicate the sex tape was a part of a publicity stunt by Keya Morgan, a memorabilia collector who claimed to stumble across the footage while researching his documentary on Monroe. Search activity is also on the rise for Time Magazine, up 412 percent following controversy surrounding its April 21 cover issue in which the editors decided to take the famous Iwo Jima photograph of the Marines raising the American flag and replace the flag with a tree to promote environmental awareness. Iwo Jima veterans including Donald Mates are now outraged, calling Time's move a "disgrace." Time Magazine managing editor Richard Stengel appeared on MSNBC April 17, defending the cover's purpose stating the U.S. needs to make a major effort to fight climate change. Meanwhile, Craigslist makes its first-ever appearance on the list, debuting at number 40 on the Lycos 50 this week. And controversial talk radio personality Howard Stern re-enters the Lycos top search list at number 39 following the surprise, apparent departure of his on-air sidekick, comedian Artie Lange. During a live broadcast last week, Lange quit his 7-year-run on "The Howard Stern Show," following a violent outburst on Thursday's Sirius Satellite Radio broadcast. Lange had an altercation with his personal assistant in the hallways of Stern's studio that made its way on air and nearly became physical before show staffers intervened. Lange then told Stern, "I can't guarantee that won't happen again," to which Stern quickly replied: "Then you can't be here anymore." Lange then offered his resignation, which Stern accepted. While fans wait to see if Lange's resignation will hold, Stern's show did not broadcast live on Friday and is on vacation this week.

Lycos Teams with Click Forensics to Improve PPC Traffic Quality

SAN FRANCISCO - April 16, 2008 - During Ad Tech San Francisco today, Click ForensicsTM, Inc., the leading provider of traffic quality management solutions, today announced that Lycos, Inc. (www.lycos.com) is the latest top online property to team with Click Forensics to improve Pay Per Click (PPC) traffic quality for search marketers. As part of the agreement, Lycos is using Click Forensics for Publishers to filter out poor quality PPC traffic before it affects client ad campaigns, resulting in better overall traffic quality for advertisers running campaigns in the Lycos social publishing, media and search services offerings.

"Because Click Forensics has access to critical PPC traffic data that search engines don't, its solutions enable us to maintain the highest quality of the search traffic we send to our advertisers and partners," said Ed Noel, General Manager of Search Products for Lycos, Inc.

In addition to filtering out low quality traffic in real-time, Click Forensics for Publishers delivers regular updates on new sites and sources perpetrating click fraud or those sending bad traffic to clients and members. The service is similar to a spam filter that receives regular updates on sources of spam and phishing schemes.

"Lycos is one of the oldest and most widely-known Internet brands in the world, reaching 10 percent of the global population with more than 65 million unique visitors," said Tom Cuthbert, president of Click Forensics. "They understand advertisers will no longer tolerate low quality traffic or click fraud often missed by search engines, ad networks and online publishers. By teaming with us, Lycos is taking a leadership role to proactively block low quality traffic before it affects client campaigns."

Using patent-pending analytics and live campaign data from the Click Fraud NetworkTM, Click Forensics for Publishers identifies sources of click fraud and poor quality traffic. Information is updated in real-time as data is continuously gathered from live campaigns tracked across various search engines, content networks and publisher sites from the advertisers. Specific data tailored to the needs of the individual publisher or ad network is then provided via an API so intelligent filtering decisions can be made.

Lycos Teams with SpotXchange for in-game video ads

InGame Video Ad Network Reaches a Captive Audience

WESTMINSTER, Colo., April 10. Leading online video advertising network SpotXchange announced a list of top casual gaming sites who are making their InGame video ad inventory available to advertisers in the SpotXchange marketplace. This portfolio of partners includes NeoEdge Networks, eGames.com, Slingo.com, NetWinner's AdverGame Network, Moola.com, and Lycos's Gamesville.com. According to various third-party measurement firms, SpotXchange's network of casual gaming publishers reaches over 25 million unique monthly visitors in aggregate.

Most casual gaming inventory is monetized by static or rich-media display advertisements that run before a game starts or between game levels. While they generate revenue for casual gaming publishers, display advertisements do not leverage the inventory's true value given the dramatically high brand exposure and interaction rates generated by InGame video ads.

"When Education Connection advertises on TV our target is stay-at-home moms looking for career options. SpotXchange's casual gaming inventory is spot-on for this demographic," said Education Connection Chief Operating Officer Todd Zipper. "We have been very pleased as casual gamers are not only clicking on our ads, but they are also converting to leads at high rates."

Advertisers currently buying InGame video inventory through the SpotXchange marketplace are reaching an engaged and ultra-targeted consumer. The effectiveness of video advertising is commonly measured by click-through rates and the average amount of the video advertisement viewed. On average, SpotXchange casual gaming publishers deliver click-through rates between one and five percent. In February, over 90 percent of the InGame video advertisements served by SpotXchange were watched in full.

"Casual gaming is one of the most popular forms of online entertainment. A Parks Associates report from August 2007 puts it above even online video viewing," said SpotXchange CEO/President Michael Shehan. "Combine that growth and popularity with engagement and targeting and it's clear why SpotXchange is so bullish with this vertical."

The SpotXchange platform allows advertisers to launch precisely targeted video ad campaigns in minutes. The transparent marketplace provides advertisers the ability to target specific publishers and content categories (e.g. casual gaming, news, sports, etc.). Additionally, advertisers can refine their targeting to reach users by region (country, state, and/or DMA) and time of day. SpotXchange enables advertisers to target specific demographics such as gender and age group on publisher sites that require this information for user registration. More information on InGame advertising through the SpotXchange marketplace is available at http://spotxchange.com/spx_advertisers_netvert_casgaming.html.

About SpotXchange

The SpotXchange patent-pending online video advertising platform received the 2007 Streaming Media Readers' Choice Award for BEST VIDEO AD PLATFORM. The company was spun off from Colorado-based digital marketing and technology company Booyah Networks in March 2007. Booyah Networks ranked 23rd on the 2006 Inc. 500. Clients and partners include Blinkx, Lycos, Voxant, LiveVideo.com, NeoEdge, United Press International and others.

Angelina Jolie tops the Lycos 50 this week, jumping 444 percent in search interest as provocative photos taken of the actress when she was 16-years-old were recently released by In Touch Weekly Magazine. Web users also flocked to the internet following a Star Magazine report that Jolie and Brad Pitt wed on Sat. March 29, but sources close to the couple quickly put those rumors to rest. Actress Eva Longoria sees her search activity pop 215 percent after website X17 posted an apology Friday for falsely reporting her husband Tony Parker had an affair with a woman named Alexandra Paressant in Dec. 2007. And celebrity blogger Perez Hilton scores big with web users on Lycos, rising 177 percent after stating he and singer John Mayer "hooked up" at club Stereo in New York City. Hilton is so adamant about his night with Mayer that he took a lie detector test with an examiner from Fox's hit show, "The Moment of Truth." Hilton will also soon be dishing up celebrity dirt on his new three-minute-long radio shows, scheduled to begin airing May 5 during morning and evening drive times in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and other big cities, with more markets planned over the next few months.

Former WWE Diva Trish Stratus (#1) achieves her highest rank ever, topping the Lycos 50 this week, jumping ahead of web darlings Paris Hilton (#5), Britney Spears (#7) and Pam Anderson (#8). Stratus' most recent project is her new reality show "Stratusphere," currently in production and scheduled to air in August on the Travel Channel. Controversy and cries of racism continue to swirl around the April cover of Vogue Magazine, featuring basketball star Lebron James and supermodel beauty Gisele Bundchen, sending search activity soaring 654 percent for Vogue. The Vogue cover, shot by legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz, depicts James in a King Kong-esque pose, hoisting a very damsel-like Bundshen into the air. Those criticizing the cover see the photo of James, the first black man to appear on the cover of Vogue, as perpetuating the image of the aggressive black man, and worse, mimicking King Kong. Meanwhile, search activity increased threefold for actress Demi Moore who shot up the search logs this week following a recent appearance on the "Late Show with David Letterman" (promoting her new movie "Flawless") where Moore announced she's a huge fan of a detox treatment called leech therapy. And the movie "21" hit the jackpot at the weekend box office and scores hands down with web users, up 322 percent in online interest.

Paris Hilton (#1) regains the top spot on this week's Lycos 50 following the continuous news flow of her obsession with new boyfriend Benji Madden. Hilton was in South Africa to support Madden's band Good Charlotte during a recent performance in Johannesburg. According to People Magazine, Hilton kept herself busy stopping by the Jakaranda Kinderhuis School in Petoria to sign autographs and spend time with fans. Meanwhile, capitalizing on her 15 minutes of fame, and making her first-ever appearance on the Lycos 50 landing at number two this week is Ashley Alexandra Dupre, a headliner in the Eliot Spitzer scandal. According to US Magazine, Joe Francis, the ex-co-creator of "Girls Gone Wild," has offered Dupre $1 million for a photo shoot and a tour, but rescinded the offer when he discovered Dupre had already appeared in a "GGW" video. Madonna (#10) jumps into this week's top 10 list, up from number 36, seeing her highest ranking since Sept. 2003 when she and Britney Spears kissed during the MTV Video Music Awards broadcast. Interest in Madonna is due in part to buzz surrounding her upcoming album "Hard Candy," scheduled to drop April 29, and her recent induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And "Dancing with the Stars" is the big TV winner with web users, up 110 percent in online interest following its premiere last week.

Search activity for New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer has jumped 200 percent over the past 24 hours since revelations of Spitzer's involvement with a prostitution ring known as the Emperors Club surfaced earlier this week.  Spitzer resigned today, and Lt. Gov. David Paterson, who will become the first black governor in the state, will be sworn in to replace Spitzer.  Meanwhile, presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama continues to lead all other political search queries, jumping 100 percent over the past week, generating 33 percent more search activity than rival Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Clinton, with Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain running a distant third in search popularity behind Obama and Clinton.  From the world of entertainment, the gossip mill helps propel actress Jessica Biel up 222 percent in search activity, due in part to rumors that boyfriend Justin Timberlake is ready to propose.  Timberlake also sees his searches spike following rumors of pleas from Britney Spears' father Jamie, asking Timberlake to join Britney on a new music tour.  Timberlake reportedly passed on the offer and is busy producing an NBC television pilot about a bachelor who strikes out with the ladies. "My Problem with Women" follows 30-something Jose as he attempts to understand his romantic failures through therapy sessions.  And searches for controversial Eminem double this week amidst rumors the rap-star is being sued for unpaid royalties.  According to TMZ.com, a lawsuit filed by FBT Productions and Em2m claims Eminem's label, Aftermath, and its parent Interscope, owe them more than $1 million in unpaid royalties, damages and fees.

Lycos Selects Datran Media to Increase Inbox Marketing Revenue

Tripod, HotBot, Gamesville and Angelfire Properties to Benefit From StormPost, Inventory Management and Exchange Online Solutions

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - March 11, 2008) - Datran Media, the industry-leading inbox marketing company, today announced that Lycos, Inc. (www.lycos.com), a leading provider of social publishing, media and search services, has signed on as its newest StormPost client. Lycos selected StormPost as its primary tool to deliver and manage email newsletters and advertising inventory for its 10 million-member network including the Tripod, Lycos 50TM, Gamesville and Angelfire properties.

"Lycos's marketing initiatives range from CRM, newsletter-based programs to stand-alone and contextual advertisements," said Brigitte LaMarche, director of marketing for Lycos. "Datran Media was selected to help Lycos grow the revenue stream we generate from newsletter banners and other inbox ad inventory. In addition, the combination of Datran Media's Inventory Management solution and its Exchange Online (EO.com) auction-style marketplace provides our Tripod, HotBot and Angelfire business lines with the opportunity to monitor sold and available inbox ad inventory and funnel any unsold units into the marketplace. It's a tremendous efficiency and revenue generation value-add."

Datran Media's inbox ad serving solution allows publishers to serve highly relevant messages, including banner ads within their email newsletters. The solution provides publishers with the same media opportunity in the email channel that was established in the display advertising channel in the past.

Datran Media's first-of-its-kind inbox advertising Inventory Management system allows salespeople to select, reserve and manage their inbox ad inventory similar to the way that they manage banners and other web inventory. It then generates status reports on the availability of inbox ad space and allows users to "release" unsold inventory into Datran Media's Exchange Online (EO.com), the first real-time, bid-driven marketplace for inbox and web media.

"Until now, publishers of inbox ad inventory had limited options for managing their media," said Matt Keiser, president of Datran Media. "Datran Media's newsletter banner serving, Inventory Management and EO.com solutions solve that problem by adding intelligence and automating the processes. We are excited that Lycos has teamed with Datran Media to manage this critical component of their revenue model."

Search Gainers:

Lindsay Lohan's latest publicity move mimicking Marilyn Monroe's 1962 final photo shoot, created quite an online buzz, catapulting Lohan to the top of this week's list, and bumping Poker (#25) from its usual perch atop the Lycos 50.  In New York Magazine's current Spring Fashion issue, Lindsay Lohan bares it all; well most of it, sending search activity for Lohan skyrocketing 700 percent.  Meanwhile, Poker sees the biggest drop, falling out of the top 10 for the first time in nearly two years.  Even in the midst of the European Poker Tour Copenhagen, web users appear less than captivated with poker this week.  American Timothy Vance took the chip lead into the final table and after a marathon heads-up battle, scored the $1,236,095 first prize money.

The Academy Awards® aired Sunday, Feb. 24 pushing "Juno" to its first-ever appearance on the Lycos 50, landing at number 10 this week. The quirky "Juno" missed the Oscar® for best picture but was a big winner online, rising 475 percent in search activity.  And baseball (#38) swings into action, re-entering this week's list, climbing 68 percent, due in part to the official start of spring training games this week, and on-going news surrounding the steroids scandal.   Jennifer Lopez and Christina Aguilera see searches spike, up 70 percent and 60 percent respectively, hot on the heals of new baby news.  Lopez and husband Marc Anthony, recently celebrated the arrival of a baby boy and baby girl, whose names have yet to be revealed, while Aguilera continues to see a rise in search interest following the first photos of baby Max, which hit newsstands last week.
